 Many people see dental care as unnecessary or expensive, but the time you put into your dental care now can save you more money in the future. It is difficult to make all those visits our office, but we like to look at regular dental care as an investment. We believe that if you invest in yourself now, the future costs in dental care will be much less, saving you money in the long run. Dental care costs can build up very quickly over time and the main way to prevent this is through good oral hygiene. This means flossing and brushing twice a day at least while also making regular visits to our office for teeth cleanings. Some people may say they do a good enough job at cleaning their teeth on their own, but the truth is, flossing and brushing cannot get into all the spaces we can at our office. After brushing or flossing, there is always a little bit of leftover bacteria residing in your mouth. Over time the bacteria will become hard and require dental tools to be removed. If you are still skeptical, even though we are trained in dentistry, still receive our regular teeth cleanings. Future Problems from Poor Dental HygieneIf left for long enough, the bacteria in your mouth can cause you a lot of headache, or should we say wallet-ache. As bacteria sit in the mouth, they will eat away at your teeth destroying its enamel which can never grow back. If the problem stops there, we can always give you veneers but they can be really expensive and take some time to install. After the enamel of a tooth is gone, the bacteria will begin slowly decaying the tooth, which can only be fixed by procedures like fillings, onlays, and root canals. These procedures can be very expensive to perform and some correction methods require invasive surgery, which can take weeks to heal from. This is why we always recommend addressing any problems you may have with your dental health immediately rather than waiting.
